WHAT WE DO
We help those in need in our local neighborhoods by contributing so they have food all year round, not just during holiday food drives. The Silver Spring Neighborhood Food Project connects our neighborhoods to our local food banks, so we can all help those who need it most.
HOW WE DO IT
Participants are given a grocery bag to fill with nonperishable food and personal hygiene items over the course of two months. Just buy one extra item each time you shop! On the second Saturday of each even numbered month, our volunteers collect the bags. The donations are brought to our local non-profit partner. Currently we have partnered with the Adventist Community Center in 501 Sligo Avenue, Silver Spring. They sort our donations and distribute them to local families in need.
HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
DONOR
It’s easy and takes almost no time - simply pick up an extra non-perishable healthy food item or personal hygiene item when you buy your own groceries. Items on sale two for one are a great option. You place it in your SSFNP green bag and outside your door in the day of the pick. Pick up is once every 2 months, the second Saturday of the month.
DONATION COLLECTOR
You can be a neighborhood collector. Every two months you pick up about ten bags from your neighbors and deliver them to the local meeting point. You leave a new bag behind. It’s just that simple - and it’s a great way to get involved in the community.
TEAM MEMBER
We would love for you to join our coordinating team. Easy tasks such as make some calls, participating in short event to help sign up more families.
